1. Florida Atlantic stuns Oklahoma

The Florida Atlantic Owls finished last season with an 11-3 record under the watch of polarizing head coach Lane Kiffin. However, even that impressive showing, one that culminated with a Conference-USA Championship and a Boca Raton Bowl win, doesn’t tell the whole story. After a rocky start to the season, the Owls won 10-straight games and were quietly one of the most explosive offensive teams in the country, led by star running back Devin Singletary.

Singletary, who rushed for 1,920 yards and 32 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2017, returns this season and will no doubt be the catalyst for Florida Atlantic. More importantly, however, the Owls should upgrade at quarterback this year as De’Andre Johnson, a former Florida State Seminole of Last Chance U fame, takes the helm of the offense. Put simply, this might be the best offensive team in the country that no one’s talking about.

Having said that, there is always going to be an obvious overall talent discrepancy between a team like FAU and the Oklahoma Sooners. And, with Lincoln Riley leading the way on the sidelines, there’s reason to believe that Oklahoma should be a great offensive team. However, there are concerns about a defense that both wasn’t very good last season and now has to cope with key losses.

Ultimately, I believe that Florida Atlantic has the offensive prowess to expose the Sooners defense and keep pace with Oklahoma in a shootout. Anything can happen when both teams are putting up points at will, and I think that results in a massive upset to begin the 2018 college football season.
