Every NBA team’s most famous fan

Boston Celtics — Donnie Wahlberg
Donnie Wahlberg, a Massachusetts native, was once a member of the 80s boy band “New Kids on the Block.” Since then, Wahlberg has become a songwriter and actor. He mostly just chills now.
One of his hobbies, however, is supporting the Boston Celtics.
Wahlberg is not just any normal celebrity fan, though. Like many fans in Boston, Wahlberg bleeds green. He puts his all into being a fan of the Celtics.
In 2017, Wahlberg narrated ESPN’s 30 for 30 episode on the long-time Celtics and Lakers rivalry.
Wahlberg was offered the spot former Celtic and presumed friend Chris Herren. Wahlberg claimed to respond to Herren saying, “I would narrate that 30 for 30 for a grilled cheese sandwich. And I’ll pay for it.”
It wasn’t about the money. Wahlberg had the chance to tell the story of a rivalry he lived through as a young adult. That is true fandom right there.
In a radio interview with Dan Patrick, Wahlberg said he became such a Celtics diehard because they “were the only real winners in Boston for a very long time.”
In the 80s, the Celtics were all Boston had — so they got very attached to the Celtics-Lakers rivalry. Wahlberg claimed that Boston fans were the lunch-pale guys, while Lakers fans were the big Hollywood phonies.
He also said that he gets mad when he sees his brother, Mark Wahlberg, sitting at Lakers games in LA next to their bench and not identifying as a Celtics fan.
Wahlberg is a true celebrity fan. He doesn’t just fake it and come to the big games. For that, Donnie gets my respect.
