Jose Mourinho and Manchester United will attempt to get back on track on Sunday. They’ll face Burnley away at Turf Moor in a game that could have serious implications on Mourinho’s status as the club’s manager. United are currently in a poor run of form to start the season, losing two of their first three games. They managed to beat Leicester at Old Trafford to open the year before losing consecutive games to both Brighton and Tottenham.
World Cup winner Paul Pogba is United’s leading scorer so far this season (albeit from two converted penalties), and will likely be in action against Burnley. The Red Devils will need more from their other big-name stars like Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez if they hope to turn around their early season woes.
Burnley have also lost their last two games, though with far less fanfare than the situation at United. The Clarets have only one point in their first three games of the season, coming on their opening day draw with Southampton. Defeats against Watford and Fulham followed, and their typically stout defense has been more porous than usual. Burnley have allowed five goals in their last two matches, compared to the three they’ve managed to score.
The Clarets have had to balance the Europa League preliminary rounds as well as the Premier League this season, and it appears to have taken its toll on the Clarets. A win against a team with the rich history and pedigree of United will go a long way towards re-establishing their confidence as far as the domestic league is concerned.
Both teams are desperately looking for a win, so expect this to be a hard-fought game with both sides looking to come out with a victory.
