No. 5 Josh Malone/Tyler Boyd, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals and Andy Dalton have had a nice preseason. Their offense has looked comfortable and ready for opening day. A.J. Green has been his dominant self but there’s room for someone else to grab targets.
Most will point to second-year player John Ross as the top candidate. However, he’s still trying to find his rhythm after miss much of his rookie season.
Ross is more of a deep threat who could be a little one dimensional. Don’t be surprised if he’s stuck in that role early on. That gives both Josh Malone and Tyler Boyd an opportunity to establish themselves as part of the game plan.
Malone is the more physically gifted of the two. He features an excellent combination of size and quickness. Malone can outpace defensive backs and high point the football.
Boyd is a sound route runner who comes with a little more experience. The Bengals like that he’s a consistent and reliable target. This is the type of receiver that quarterbacks like because he’s always where he is suppose to be.
If you’re looking for a home-run type addition then keep a close eye on Malone. Boyd might better serve as a bye week fill in.
