Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, Madison Keys, and David Goffin, but all of twitter went crazy first over Roger Federer’s wizardry in his sensational win over Nick Kyrgios, 6-4, 6-1, 7-5.

If you thought Maria Sharapova would be challenged by the next generation star Jelena Ostapenko, the Russian answered by continuing her night match win-streak, clocking in her 23rd U.S. Open evening victory, 6-3, 6-2.

If Novak Djokovic has been stretched to four sets in his last two matches, he was back to dominant form with a straight sets win over Richard Gasquet, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.

Madison Keys lost the first set of her match against Russian Aleksandra Krunić, but found her rhythm once again and bounced back for the win, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

David Goffin was a master of precision in his win over Germany’s Jan-LennardStruff, 6-4, 6-1, 7-6(4).

Marin Cilic battled through fatigue and a late night match against young upstart Alex de Minaur, that went four hours, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. The thrilling fifth set ended at almost 2:30 a. m. on Louis Armstrong stadium.

Sure, they were all great, absolutely, but Roger Federer was pure magic and set Arthur Ashe on fire during his straight sets victory over mercurial Nick Kyrgios, who at times yelled at his box about his misfiring serves, and also blurted out that he needed a new coach. He also imitated Federer’s serve at times, and his SABR (Sneak Attack By Roger).

But Federer put on a performance that left tennis fans spellbound. It wasn’t just the sneak around the post corner running forehand that he knocked off, but it was shot after stunning shot. It was one of the best matches he’s played, and yes, we’re talking about Federer here. His shot-making was so awesomely beautiful, that many took to twitter to call him a wizard, god, and even a Jedi.

So let’s get to it, here are some of the twitter highlights.

Federer hit so many gorgeous winners, but the U.S. Open tweeted out this as the shot of the match:

But then the Swiss Maestro topped that with the shot everyone was talking about, that match of the tournament:

Prompting some to call him a Jedi:

But SB Nation called him a wizard:

Another fan implored the legend to never retire:

And this was Kyrgrios’ stunned reaction:

Another fan called him both an artist and a scientist:

Another called him a god:

When Federer lost to Djokovic in the Cincinnati Masters final, a lot of people said his legs looked tired. I guess the 20-time slam champion answered that criticism tonight.

It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Third round matches continue on Sunday, viewable on the ESPN channels.
