TCU landed in the top 25 to open the season, and it managed to keep its spot, with a 55-7 win over an FCS team, Southern. An expected win, sure, but this scoring margin maintained how the Horned Frogs could become one of the Big 12’s elite as the year continues.

Quality defense and efficient quarterback play from Shawn Robinson led the way for TCU, as he had five total touchdowns (three passing, two rushing). Look for him to anchor the offense throughout the season.

For Week 2, TCU will go on the road to face SMU, an inter-state matchup before the star-studded battle against Ohio State in Week 3. There can’t be any slip-ups prior to this contest on Sept. 15.

Lane Kiffin’s Florida Atlantic received some hype entering a Week 1 game against Oklahoma, who no longer had Baker Mayfield at quarterback. However, the dual-threat nature of Kyler Murray entered the fray and kept everything status quo.

Murray kept it interesting with 209 passing yards on an efficient 9-for-11 and two touchdowns. He could have gone for more, but the scoring margin led to playing time for Austin Kendall and other Sooner backups.

The running backs pushed forward, as well, with a combined five touchdowns, two of which came from Rodney Anderson and 100 yards to boot. Add in Trey Sermon’s 69 yards, and it became a positive afternoon.

Oklahoma will stay home to face UCLA in Week 2. Can this become an early 2-0 start for Lincoln Riley’s squad?
