Loser – Larry Fedora, North Carolina
The UNC Tar Heels looked like they were headed for a shutout loss on the road against Cal, but they made an incredible effort to get back in the game. Still, it was a loss and for fans groaning over last year’s 3-9 season, it wasn’t the best start.
Now, the Tar Heels have to regroup quickly and get ready for some tough games over the next month that could sink their season before it even gets started. Fedora’s tenure started off hot enough for him to make it this long but it’s trending south quickly.
To his credit, Cal is a much different program under head coach Justin Wilcox. The Golden Bears are a tough program to open up against on the road and the Tar Heels showed some promise in the second half.
If they can carry that over to their road tilt against East Carolina this weekend, then they can have something to build on as they have those aforementioned difficult tests that lie ahead of them in the coming month.
Fedora isn’t an individual that is in danger of losing his job early in the season unless the Tar Heels were just to nose dive and lose every game. Instead, he’ll be likely given a full season to show that his program is back on track.
