4. Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys

As you look to shore up your fantasy roster for Week 1, here’s another rookie for you to keep in mind: Michael Gallup of the Dallas Cowboys.

Gallup is a wide receiver out of Colorado State, selected in the third round (pick No. 81) by Dallas. The 22-year-old is in position to have a big Week 1 — and a big year, for that matter — due to the fact that the Cowboys’ receiving core is now wide open.

Jason Witten, the longtime tight end who spent years catching passes from Tony Romo, opted to retire after last season. At the same time, Dez Bryant — the Cowboys’ No. 1 receiver for the past eight seasons — was released this offseason after an ugly divorce with the organization.

That opens up spots for new wide receivers to come in and make an immediate impact. It’s obviously too early to call Gallup the next Bryant, but somebody has to catch those passes from Dak Prescott, and Gallup is probably the best available man for the job other than Allen Hurns.

Gallup and Prescott appeared to have built a good rapport while practicing together in training camp, and Gallup has shown good abilities in the red zone — a big selling point for fantasy owners. Gallup also flashed his abilities on the team’s very first drive of the preseason, hauling in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Prescott.

With the Cowboys entering a new era of pass catchers, Gallup will be a great youngster to keep an eye on as they open the 2018 season in Carolina on Sunday.
