2019 NFL Mock Draft: Bills land Nick Bosa at No. 1
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants surprised a lot of people during the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, when they passed on their next franchise quarterback for Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. Sure, Barkley is an incredible talent, and the Giants are trying to win now, but if USC’s Sam Darnold wins with the New York Jets, they are going to be second-guessing themselves for years.
In Barkley, they have that elite running back that quarterback Eli Manning hasn’t had in a long time, maybe since the days of Tiki Barber. They also spent the offseason locking up star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. up long-term, so the pieces are in place for this offense to be pretty explosive this season.
On the defensive side of the ball, there are a lot of question marks, especially in their secondary. Yes, Janoris Jenkins is a beast of a cornerback, but how much can you really trust that Eli Apple is going to give you consistent play each week. He is a former first round pick, but his time in the Big Apple could be wearing thin.
With their first round pick in April, the Giants should look to go with a cornerback, and DeAndre Baker from Georgia has the talent to be a shutdown guy at the next level. He could team with Jenkins to give the Giants two good cornerbacks for the first time in forever, as they attempt to win one last Super Bowl with Manning under center.
