Dallas Stars

No, Tyler Seguin isn’t on this list for a team’s best player that’s still searching for a Stanley Cup championship. Seguin, 26, won a Stanley Cup back in 2010-11 with the Boston Bruins, but there’s another top skater on Dallas that’s still in need of a Cup ring,

Forward Jamie Benn has established himself as one of the top goal-scorers in the NHL since having a breakout season in 2013-14, after he netted 34 goals and tallied 45 assists for 79 points. However, the former fifth-round draft pick (2005) joined the Stars back in 2009-10 and has yet to win a Stanley Cup.

Benn has been the face of the franchise for a handful of seasons now, but the team has still failed to advance past the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It appears that the time now for the Stars to win their second Stanley Cup championship in team history, but in order to ensure that, Benn would need to produce another 30-goal season for the club. The British Columbia native has posted 30 or more goals in a season on four occasions over the past five years. It was in one of those seasons that the 6-foot-2 forward netted 41 goals and finished the year with a career-high 89 points (2015-16).

The pressure is higher than ever entering 2018-19 for captain Benn and the Stars, and in large part because the team failed to clinch a berth in the playoffs during the last two campaigns. The Stars haven’t reached the Western Conference Final since 1999-00, when Dallas lost to the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Final.
