Week 2 of the College Football Season kicks off this Saturday with some exciting games. Here is your guide to catching all of this week’s best games.
The college football season is in full swing and Week 2 will bring some must watch match-ups to TVs nationwide. As college football fans, there are always a number of questions we want to be answered early in the season.
For instance, can a Heisman Trophy candidate turn things around after a sub-par Week 1 performance or can a freshman quarterback really take over for a team poised to make another run at the College Football Playoff? These are some of the answers fans may be getting this weekend.
So, whether it be an in-state rivalry, conference play kicking off, or a new head coach taking on an old conference opponent, these are the games all college football fans must watch this Saturday.
Week 2 Games of the Week
5: No. 18 Mississippi St. at Kansas State – 12 p.m. ET – ESPN
How far can Mississippi State climb in the SEC this year? The question most likely won’t be answered this Saturday, unless Kansas State can come away with an unlikely victory. The Wildcats were taken to the wire in Week 1 against South Dakota but walked away with a slim 27-24 victory. Mississippi State, on the other hand, pummeled Stephen F. Austin 63-7, led by a dominant performance from sophomore quarterback Keytaon Thompson who filled in for suspended starter Nick Fitzgerald who returns to the starting lineup.
4: No. 3 Georgia at No. 24 South Carolina – 3:30 p.m. ET – CBS
South Carolina hosts Georgia in an early season SEC East showdown. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 45-0 victory over Austin Peay, but find themselves on upset alert this weekend against the Gamecocks. The Bulldogs are 5-4 at William-Bryce Stadium since 2000, which goes to show how intense the atmosphere can be for Georgia when playing at South Carolina. If the Gamecocks can pull off the upset at home, it will put the SEC on notice that Will Muschamp has this team ready to compete for the SEC title, but that would be a tremendous upset.
3: No. 2 Clemson at Texas A&M – 7 p.m. ET – ESPN
Clemson will be traveling to Texas A&M this Saturday, along with College GameDay, in what looks to be the first real test for new head coach Jimbo Fisher. Although Fisher knows Dabo Sweeney and the Tigers as well as any coach in the nation dating back to his time at Florida State, he will be heading into Saturday’s matchup as a huge underdog. Sweeney will look to settle the quarterback position where incumbent starter Kelly Bryant was outplayed by true freshman Trevor Lawrence against Furman.
2: No. 13 Penn State at Pittsburgh – 8 p.m. ET – ABC
Who doesn’t love watching a college football in-state rivalry? When Penn State travels to Heinz Field to take on Pitt this Saturday, fans could be in for an unlikely tight game. Last weekend, it took everything the Nittany Lions had to escape with an overtime victory against Appalachian State. Meanwhile, the Panthers rolled past Vinny Testaverde Jr. and the Albany Great Danes 33-7. Whether Penn State gets things back on track or Pitt pulls off the upset, this in-state rivalry will be one to watch the weekend.
1: No. 17 USC at No. 10 Stanford – 8:30 p.m. ET – FOX
In what many consider the game of the week, Southern Cal will head to Foster Field to take on the Stanford Cardinals. The 18-year old freshman quarterback J.T. Daniels will be leading the Trojans offense, which wasn’t perfect in Week 1 but did enough to put up 43 points on UNLV. However, the Cardinals will look to take advantage of a weak USC run defense, while hoping to see Heisman hopeful Bryce Love bounce back after a 29-yard performance against San Diego State. If your only able to watch one game this Saturday, this would be the one.
