The Jags defense gives them the edge

Neither of these offenses is going to be in a position to light up the scoreboard on a regular basis. That means oddsmakers are, understandably, making their call based on the two team’s defenses. That’s where Jacksonville has a real edge.

Jalen Ramsey deservedly gets a lot of love for his play in the secondary, but it’s the front seven that really presents problems for opposing offenses. Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue are one of the better defensive end pairings in the league. Myles Jack cleans up anything they miss from his middle linebacker position.

They are why Oddsshark.com has the Jaguars as a three-point favorite. It’s not a huge number by any stretch, but it’s a respectful nod towards the Jacksonville defense.

Odds

Line: New York (+3)

Over/Under: 43.5

The over/under is a little surprising. There’s a significant chance this matchup ends up as a battle of field goals. The end zone may be hard to find for both offenses without a great passing attack to lean on.

This is an opener that the Jaguars need to win if they want to win the division, but a Giants upset at home wouldn’t be terribly surprising.
