LeBron and Ben Simmons would have been pretty nice together
Los Angeles Laker LeBron James and Philadelphia 76er Ben Simmons teamed up to play some pickup basketball recently. The pair’s chemistry was apparent which one could wonder how the two players would have meshed had James went to Philly instead.
LeBron James is the best player in the world. Philadelphia 76er Ben Simmons plays a lot like him. So it would make sense for Simmons to train with James, right? The two players, alongside other stars such as Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony, played some
at New York Life Time Athletic this past Thursday. While the clip is cut down to one-minute highlights, it doesn’t take much to see the apparent chemistry the pair have with each other. Ironically, the 76ers were in the running to land James this summer. Sadly, we can only resort to imagining what could have been via a pickup run.
Recently, Simmons was photoed after a workout session with Dwyane Wade, James, and Richard Jefferson. Simmons has much to add to his game, and working out with three players who won NBA championships is a good way to elevate his play.
But with Simmons and James play style so similar, could it really fare well in a game? While pickup basketball is similar, it doesn’t compare to the rigors of professional basketball. Of course, many factors such as coaching, plays, and fatigue set in, and everyone can become a different player when all three factors are involved — positively or negatively. But with all that set aside, James and Simmons showed that they can at least be an exciting duo when everything is clicking.
Unless James links with Simmons down the road, we can always look to the clip above for James-Simmons hypothetical action.
