Kyler Murray is one of the most exciting quarterbacks in college football, which is why it’s hard to accept his future is in baseball.

For the second weekend, Kyler Murray has dominated Saturday. Oklahoma housed UCLA and has turned in back-to-back blowout wins to start Murrays first and only season as starting quarterback. That last part is what has everyone’s head spinning against the backdrop of how phenomenal Murray has looked.

Each time he turns in an electric performance it becomes even more inexplicable that Murray’s never going to play football again after this season ends. He was a Top-10 pick in the MLB Draft, with the Oakland Athletics investing in him being their future superstar outfielder.

But through two games this season, Murray has thrown for five touchdowns and amassed over 500 yards passing. Take into consideration he was yanked from both of his starts before the final whistle blew. Simply put, he’s been outrageously good.

As you’d expect, the takes about his future have been scorching. After two phenomenal performances to start his career at Oklahoma, the conversation about Murray choosing a career in the NFL is starting.

Any conversation about choosing a future in football over baseball will be one that shouldn’t reach the ears of Murray, and if it does it’ll be quickly dismissed.

There’s nothing wrong with being astonished that Murray is this good at football and is even better at a different sport. He looks like an All-American and is quickly evolving into a legend in Norman. In addition to his passing stats, Murray has shown his ability with almost 100 yards rushing an a pair of touchdowns. There’s a decent chance he becomes a Heisman finalist on accident.

His future is in baseball.

Don’t be bullied into thinking he should dismiss a pro baseball career because he played great against two bad college teams. As good as he’s been, a lot of Murray’s throws are behind receivers. He tends to throw the ball lower than NFL scouts will like and his height will be something we talk about him overcoming when waxing poetic about his skills. Take all that and then consider that he has zero incentive to work on his game since he’s already likely on track to be playing in the Majors before the 2020 season ends.

Rather than force an NFL narrative, let’s just enjoy this ride. Murray is such a rare and special type of sports story, a guy who could be under College Playoff lights in January and under All-Star lights within the next half-decade. You don’t have to be an A’s or Sooners fan to enjoy this journey, we’re being given a chance to be Kyler Murray fans on the ground floor of what could be one of the most interesting sports careers we’ve seen in a while.

Don’t overthink his success. Just enjoy it.
