France vs. Netherlands live stream: Watch UEFA Nations League online
By Warren Pegg
France face Netherlands at the Stade de France on Sunday, Sept. 9. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
This is the first time that Didier Deschamps’ all-conquering side have played in France since they were crowned world champions in Moscow, so it’s certain to be a celebratory occasion. The sense that the match itself might be of secondary importance has been hard to avoid in the run-up, which has been dominated by talk of captain Hugo Lloris’ recent DUI charge, Kylian Mbappe’s disciplinary woes and the team’s new kit having two stars above the badge, in recognition of France’s second World Cup triumph. Meanwhile, the coach can be forgiven for not wanting to alter a winning formula, with the only changes from the squad that he took to Russia being caused by injuries to Lloris and Steve Mandanda. And for all Deschamps’ talk of “a new adventure” starting, few believe that it will begin in earnest until after this match has ended.
The contrast between the hosts and their opponents couldn’t be more stark. The Dutch were World Cup finalists in 2010 and made it to the semis four years later, but have since failed to qualify for either Euro 2016 or this summer’s World Cup. It’s hard to overlook the symbolism of Wesley Sneijder – the team’s most-capped player and the last remaining member of its latest golden generation – being due to play his final game for the Dutch national side this week. Nonetheless, there are reasons for cautious optimism from coach Ronald Koeman, who took over when Dick Advocaat stepped down in February. Captain Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum were integral to Liverpool’s march to the Champions League final, while Quincy Promes and 19-year old Justin Kluivert both earned moves to big clubs – Sevilla and Roma respectively – over the summer.

This game will be an opportunity for a proud nation to celebrate its sporting heroes – and it’s doubtful that anything the Dutch offer up will spoil the party.
