Former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez lost a bet to famous Bostonian Mark Wahlberg, so he had to put some work in the kitchen.
Boston gets its way over New York once again. Except this time, it wasn’t between the Red Sox and Yankees (OK, maybe a little bit.) On Sunday, Alex Rodriguez reported to Wahlburgers near Fenway Park.
The restaurant’s actor-owner, Mark Wahlberg, had bet with A-Rod that their respective team would beat the other in the four-game series that started on Aug. 4. New York didn’t prevail.
With Rodriguez losing, the Sunday Night Baseball voice had to clean tables, flip burgers. He also got to make drinks.
In the end, he got a free burger. Like he couldn’t afford it or anything, he only made hundreds of millions of dollars. Now Rodriguez wants to get another bet going to get Wahlberg to New York. The way this season’s been going, that probably won’t happen.
The Yankees are still a little banged up and there are still questions to be answered. Is Aaron Judge coming back this season? Can Gary Sanchez and Greg Bird recapture their former success?
New York might be lucky to win the Wild Card Game. On the flip side, it’s crazy that the Red Sox have to win 99 games to clinch a playoff spot. So we’ll see. For now, Boston will take the win over A-Rod anytime they can get it.
Here is what Wahlberg said at the end of the Rodriguez’s work day:
"“Everybody please give him a big round of applause for being such a good sport,” Wahlberg said. “I hope you had fun today and I hope you also learned a valuable lesson, Alex, you never go against Boston, especially if you are not on the field.”"
There you go, Alex, don’t mess with Boston anymore. You’ve had it backfire on more than one occasion. Hopefully in Boston’s case, they can take another win at the end of the month when the club plays the Yankees for their last series of the season.
