“Washington is cool, as well” – Dez Bryant

Dez Bryant watched the first full NFL Sunday slate from his couch, or private movie theatre or yacht or wherever he may have viewed todays games. Although his legs were idle, his twitter fingers were more active than Tyreek Hill. When a Cowboys fan pleads Dez to return as the Panthers stomped Dallas, Dez had an interesting quote tweet…

Someone in Washington D.C. can make a lot of money off of a shirt that reads ‘Washington is cool as well’. Good slogan for the Redskins this year.

Dez has not kept it private that he is a fan of the Patriots roster, calling Tom Brady his favorite player back in August.

The Patriots do face an interesting situation with their current WR depth. Are you familiar with Riley McCarron or Chad Hanson? Because they are current active roster wide receivers for the New England Patriots. Rob Gronkowski continued to show today that he is a deep threat and the Patriots do have a current fleet of Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson who all clearly have a role in the offense. On top of that, they have Rex Burkhead who is a pass catcher and the STILL underrated James White. Of course, Julian Edelman will join them when Week 5 arrives as well.

Dez Bryant has had a tumultuous off-season with non-stop rumors, team visits and Browns rumors. It is tough to say whether Dez has been waiting for the right landing spot, if his price is too high or if teams are worried about his locker room presence.

He did have very mediocre year last season, by Dez Bryant standards. He only reeled in 69 catches on 132 targets good for only 52% conversion. It was his best % in a injury-plagued three-year span, but he has not been in his premiere form since 2014 (1320 yards, 16 TDs).

There is an EERIE similarity of Dez Bryant’s career trajectory to that of Randy Moss – When Randy Moss joined the Patriots, he was a troubled wide receiver with elite talent and rocky stretch, especially during those two seasons with the Raiders. Now I am not saying Dez Bryant will become Randy Moss if he joins the Patriots, but it is interesting to see what Tom Brady can do with a receiver of that caliber down on his luck and what the Patriots can do to a troubled mega star.

The Patriots have just under $7 million worth of cap space, and I believe that is enough to bring in Dez Bryant on a short 1 or 2 year deal. It would be a win-win for both parties involved, giving the Patriots a down field threat to balance their current attack plan (GRONK-GRONK-GRONK) and would allow Dez to prove himself on a winning football team.
