One of the biggest surprises of the Week 1 slate happened on Monday night, when the New York Jets went into the Detroit and blew the doors off of the Lions. Led by rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, the Jets saw their new signal-caller shake off a pick-six on his first NFL throw, and proceed to lead them to a 48-17 victory on the road.

Darnold is exactly what the team had hoped he would be, as he was the only rookie to start at quarterback in Week 1. He has the confidence that you need to succeed at the position in the NFL, especially in New York, and all of a sudden the Jets have something, or someone to believe in.

While the Jets may be a year away from being a playoff team, they really made a statement on Monday night. The defense looked really good, and they were flying to the ball against the Lions, forcing a ton of turnovers. If they play that way all season, they are going to surprise some teams.

Looking at their draft needs, the Jets still need to get some help up front on the offensive side of the ball, and Dalton Risner from Kansas State has the versatility they need. He can play up and down the line, and after seeing Darnold perform on Monday, you can be sure this team is going to do everything they can to keep him upright for the next 15 years.
