2. Arizona State (-5) vs. San Diego State
In perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the young 2018 college football season, Herm Edwards has the Arizona State Sun Devils inside the AP Top 25 as the 23rd ranked team in the country. This, of course, is coming off of their big-time upset over Michigan State last week. Now they have to go on the road this week to face a San Diego State Aztecs team that gave Stanford a tough showing in the first week of the season.
With the way that San Diego State running back Juwan Washington can move the ball on the ground, both moving the chains and controlling the game flow, the thought is that the Aztecs should offer another test for the Sun Devils. Subsequently, that’s why Arizona State is only favored by five points in this road matchup.
Maybe I’m drinking the Kool-Aid a little bit with Edwards and this team, but I think that they come into this one and handle their business relatively emphatically. Yes, Edwards’ sound-bites make you question his sanity from time to time, but when it comes to the football that’s being played by his team under his watch, there’s nothing that you can question.
This Sun Devils offense is balanced and explosive with Manny Wilkins at quarterback and a star like N’Keal Harry at wide receiver. More importantly, this defense proved against the Spartans last week that they can stand up to any team in the country and stifle their attack. Thus, I think the five-point spread is far too low and that Arizona State continues to prove they’re legit.
