Fantasy Football 2018: It’s only Week 1, but…

While only 16 games were played, there are some notes worth keeping an eye on for the rest of the fantasy football season.

The 2018 fantasy football season is just one week old. With 14 or 15 weeks left, depending on your league format, it’s hard to overreact on what happened in Week 1. However, there are some things that you can’t ignore. Whether it’s wide receiver targets, running back carries or playing time, what happens now may become the norm later.

Looking at a depth chart gives you an idea of which players will get the most playing time. That doesn’t mean the quarterback will throw to that player the most. The same goes for running back and their carries. It all depends on the matchup, skill level and game flow. The last one is what fantasy football owners cannot predict.

It’s only been one week but…

The Buffalo Bills look bad

Facing the tough Baltimore Ravens defense didn’t help but starting the season with Nathan Peterman under center wasn’t a good idea. The team switched to Josh Allen halfway through but he didn’t perform much better.

Zay Jones was the highest scoring player with five PPR points. LeSean McCoy is going to have to deal with a lot of eight-man fronts. He’ll have a Shady-like game once or twice this season but it’s going to be a difficult road.

Stream defenses against the Bills.

Baltimore Ravens using RBBC

Everyone was on the Alex Collins bandwagon. He had a 52.8 ADP in ESPN leagues. However, he was the third-best running back in Week 1. Collins finished with 13 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.

I expect him to get more in Week 1. The blowout against the Bills didn’t help his case. Don’t forget about Javorius Allen who had 17 rushing yards, a touchdown, 15 receiving yards and five catches.

Kenneth Dixon had a score but will miss several weeks. Allen will be on the field on passing downs while Collins will carry the ball.

Kenny Golladay over Marvin Jones

Golden Tate‘s role on his team is locked in. Jones was thought of to be the No. 2 wide receiver but second-year receiver Golladay outshined him.

Golladay caught seven of his 12 targets for 114 yards. Jones had four catches for 54 yards.

The Detroit Lions offense can exist with all three wide receivers being successful. But on a game-by-game basis, it will hard to determine which two will have the bigger game. I think Golladay is the better season-long option.

Tight end is shallow

Before the season even began, many knew the tight end position was shallow. I equated it to the catcher position for fantasy baseball. There are a couple of elite options, a nice group of good players and then the rest.

Only seven tight ends scored more than 10 PPR points last week. Three were drafted as top-10 tight ends, Rob Gronkowski, Jordan Reed and Jack Doyle. Jared Cook, Eric Ebron and George Kittle were in the top 20. Will Dissly was nowhere to be found.

With Delanie Walker already done for the season. Greg Olson’s return a question mark and multiple teams without a true tight end, finding a fantasy-revelant one on the waiver wire is going to be tough come by weeks.

If you are lucky enough to have two tight ends, trade one for a high price.

It’s only one week, but there is a lot of good and a lot of bad that we saw. Figuring out the team trends and which players are getting the playing time will lead to a championship. You can’t win games if your players aren’t on the field and scoring.
