USC and Texas meet for the second consecutive year this weekend. Here is all you need to know to follow along on Saturday.
Last year the Longhorns faced the Trojans eleven years after their epic Rose Bowl National Championship game in 2006. It proved to be another instant classic. With just 45 seconds left Sam Ehlinger hit Armanti Forman for a 17-yard touchdown to put Texas up 17-14. The Longhorns appeared to have stunned the No. 4 Trojans again until Chase McGrath sent the game into overtime where USC came away with the win.
Both teams come into this game at 1-1 and are looking to build some early momentum in the season. A win for either team could be the be the difference between competing for the conference championship or finishing in the middle of the pack.
USC comes in ranked No. 22 in the country and is looking to bounce back following a 17-3 loss to Stanford. After a flawless performance against UNLV, freshman J.T Daniels struggled against the Cardinal defense. He threw two interceptions and finished with a quarterback rating of 20.3. The Trojans’ defense also had no answer for Bryce Love. The Heisman Trophy candidate ran for 136, averaged 6.2 yards per carry and finished with one touchdown.
Texas’ season has gotten off to a rocky start. After losing to Maryland in disappointing fashion, Texas was looking for a strong rebound win at home and arguably got the opposite. Facing Tulsa, Texas jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and looked to be on their way to a dominant win. In the second half, the Golden Hurricanes responded with back-to-back Shamari Brooks touchdowns. Tre Watson extended the lead to 14, but Tulsa still scored with over four minutes still to play to bring them back within a touchdown. The Longhorns might have held on, but a close win against an American conference team does little to settle down the fan base.
Saturday’s game can be seen live on FOX, which means fans can also stream it on the FOX Sports Go app with a TV provider login. Alternatively, the game can be streamed on Fubo TV.
