Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. We’re in the final week of season 5 so be sure to clean up any challenges you haven’t completed yet.

This week’s challenges aren’t too difficult, and not much has changed in the world of Fortnite. All the speculation leading up to season 6 currently surrounds the purple cube.

The cube is travelling around the map at an alarming pace. Leaving behind strange low-gravity areas. As of now, the common theory being thrown around is that it will end up in Loot Lake, giving the location a much-needed overhaul leading into the new season.

Before we dive into those rumors, let’s get the final week of challenges done.

Free challenges

Search jigsaw puzzles in basements (0/7) – This is a new version of a challenge we’ve seen before. Feel free to search for the puzzle pieces on your own, or check out this cheat sheet, locating all of them.

Consume apples or mushrooms (0/20) – There are so many mushrooms in Wailing Woods that there’s really no need to even focus on the apples. Land at Wailing and get this challenge done in one match.

Eliminate opponents (0/10) – Fire away. If you’re having trouble with this one, play 50 v 50 or squads.

Battle pass challenges

Search chests in Salty Springs (0/7) – Like you, I thought we were done with these once they introduced the staged challenges. Apparently those are too easy. So, we go back to fighting over chests in Salty Springs for one final week.

Deal damage to opponents (0/5000) – This is a little tricky if you aren’t playing a ton of Fortnite this week (or, in my case, are not very good). Fire away. A good chunk of this will be completed in the “eliminate 10 opponents” challenge. Pro tip: Play squads in order to include damage after a player is knocked.

Search between a covered bridge, a waterfall and the 9th green (0/1) – We know where the 9th green is. The covered bridge separates the golf course from the Risky Reels area and the waterfall is at the edge of the map. The battle star is located in the open field between Risky and Lazy Links.

Stage 1: Eliminate opponents in Pleasant Park (0/1) – Back to your regularly scheduled program. Follow the stages and get those elims.

Update v5.4 patch notes and season 6 speculation

Drum gun vaulted – Perhaps the most dangerous gun in the game has been vaulted. It was a pretty unpopular decision (or a warranted one, depending on where you sat with the drum gun). Perhaps we’ll see it come back some day, but for now, we have a new meta.

Suppressed Assault Rifle – This weapon is pretty good. Just watch the new AR in action. The suppressed AR (or suppressed SCAR) is a slightly more accurate version of the SCAR, dishing out 32/33 damage and rewarding players with good aim.

The purple cube

Where the hell is this thing going? As we said, the popular answer seems to be Loot Lake. So far, we’ve heard the usual list of what is coming next: “Dinosaurs, time travel, Tilted is getting destroyed!”

Epic Games has successfully drawn all of our attention to this thing, much like they did with the comet and what came after it. The leading theory is that Loot Lake will be replaced, changed or destroyed. (Good riddance!)

Perhaps the most fun sounding theory we’ve come across is that the cube will find a permanent home at Loot Lake, changing it into a volcano. Could there be a volcano under the lake? Who knows.

Epic Games has thrown us before. They hinted at Tilted’s destruction then hit Dusty Depot with a meteor. The cube could be the same thing, now that it’s widely believed to be finishing it’s journey at Loot Lake.

Personally, I’d love to see it create some sort of permanent anti-gravity area on the map, with matches occasionally finishing in said area. Or perhaps a Fortnite evil “upside down” that we could play in.

We’ll all find out soon enough, as the speculated season 6 start date is Sept. 24.

Elimination of the Week

This is just unfair. Players are getting creative with the new grappler, none more so than our favorite Fortnite superstar @Ninja.
