NFL DFS DraftKings Top Stacks for Week 2
By Ben McDaniel
If you read my article, How to Win the DraftKings Millionaire Maker Contest, you will already know how important it is that you include at least one team stack in your lineup. Remember that in 2017, 13 out of 15 winning Millionaire Maker lineups included at least one stack! So which players should you be targeting in week 2? Here are a few of my favorite NFL DFS DraftKings Top Stacks for Week 2! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @BenMcD_Sports as I’ll be sharing updates on my top stacks as we get closer to kickoff!
NFL DFS – Highly Owned DraftKings Top Stacks
Drew Brees $7200 and Michael Thomas $8,600
Forced to play from behind all day against a surprising Tampa Bay offense, Drew Brees finished week 1 with 439 yards and 3 touchdowns. Thomas led the way for the Saints wideouts by catching an absurdly efficient 16 passes on 17 targets for 180 yards and a touchdown. It was nice to see the duo share such an amazing early season rapport. They won’t be cheap this week, but they could still pay off with another huge performance. Alvin Kamara ($9,500) is also a great option, it’s just so expensive that I’ll probably cross my fingers and look elsewhere. I’m assuming Cleveland will play well enough to keep it competitive which should mean a big day for their wide receivers as well. I love running it back with Josh Gordon ($5,800) in this spot.
Ben Roethlisberger $6,900, James Conner $6,700, Antonio Brown $8,800, JuJu Smith-Schuster $6,400
I’m not implying that you stack all of them together. Although, it probably isn’t a bad idea to have as much exposure to this game as possible. This matchup has the highest expected point total of the main slate and all of the big names are in play. My only concern is that Roethlisberger hasn’t been able to practice this week due to a lingering elbow injury. He’s still expected to be on the field come Sunday, and maybe the questionable tag will cause his ownership to drop. Players from both teams will be chalky this week, but as we learned last week, sometimes eating the chalk pays off.
Patrick Mahomes $6,100, Tyreek Hill $7,600, Sammy Watkins $4,600
Mahomes is terribly underpriced and his ownership should reflect that on Sunday. The most popular Chiefs stack will be Mahomes/Hill, and it certainly carries huge potential, but I’m intrigued with Sammy Watkins this week. A disappointing week 1 in which he only managed to catch 3 passes for 21 yards will keep his ownership reasonably low for a game with the highest over/under of the day. Watkins won’t be a consistent player from week to week, but there will be the occasional game where his explosiveness is on full display. This could be that week. If you go with a Steelers stack, Watkins is also a great way to get affordable Chiefs exposure as well.
Todd Gurley $9,200, Rams DST $3,700
The classic underappreciated RB/DST stack! 3 times in 2017, the winning NFL DFS Millionaire lineup stacked a RB/DST combo, and it makes sense why. The Rams are hosting the Cardinals this week and are heavy favorites. The talented Rams defensive line should be able to get to the statuesque Sam Bradford at will, and it would be surprising if we don’t see them come up with a few takeaways. Gurley is a lock for 20+ touches every week and could get even more carries in this one if the Rams are playing with the lead. Resist the urge to pay down at the DST position and just roll with the guys you know will score you some points! Last week’s winner of the Millionaire contest had the most expensive Defense/Special Teams in his lineup, and I predict this week’s will too!
NFL DFS – Lower Owned DraftKings Top Stacks
Tom Brady $6,500, Chris Hogan $5,400
Make no mistake about it, the matchup against the Jaguars will scare away a lot of NFL DFS players. I already shared in my Week 2 Lineup Advice article why you shouldn’t be afraid to fire up Brady on Sunday. Less than a week ago, Chris Hogan was one of the hottest names in fantasy football and was considered a week 1 value play at $6,100. Proof of the public’s love for Hogan is that he carried 19.29% ownership in the DraftKings Millionaire contest. However, he was a bust, catching only one pass for 11 yards. His disappearing act in week 1 along with the tough matchup against Jacksonville in week 2 are going to keep his ownership levels in the basement this Sunday, despite his salary dropping to $5,400. I’m not ready to hit the panic button just yet. Hogan lined up in the slot more often than any other Patriot in week 1, and if there is a weak link the Jaguars secondary, it’s slot cornerback D.J. Hayden. Remember that in last year’s AFC Championship game, Danny Amendola played primarily out of the slot position as was able so secure 7 catches, 84 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
Blake Bortles $5,400, Dede Westbrook $4,500
That’s right. My two favorite lower owned stacks are from the same game. I’ve been hyping up the Bortles all week so it’s only right to include him here. With this game being played in Jacksonville, it’s important to note that Bortles is a far more effective player at home. With Fournette also a game-time decision, it’s also important to note that Bortles is a wildly more effective fantasy quarterback in games played without his stud running back. I wrote all about it in my Week 2 Lineup Advice. In week 1, Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook led the Jags in receiving with lines of 3/54 and 5/51. I could see stacking either of them with Bortles, but I personally prefer Westbrook due to the $400 savings.
Aaron Rodgers $6,800, Jimmy Graham $4,800
The Minnesota Vikings have had a stellar defense for a few years now. You know who doesn’t care? Aaron Rodgers. In 19 career games against the Purple People Eaters, Rodgers has thrown for 4,571 yards, 39 touchdowns, and only 6 interceptions. He’s also added 307 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. All that to say, Rodgers owns the Minnesota Vikings. He will be one of the highest owned options each and every week, but a nagging knee injury will bump his ownership down this week. So who should you stack him with? How about Jimmy Graham. George Kittle was able to bring in 5 catches for 90 yards in week 1, and with the Vikings boasting great cornerbacks, Graham could replicate those numbers in week 2. It’s also only a matter of time until Rodgers connects with Graham in the end zone. This might be the only chance you have all year to grab a Packers stack at low ownership.
