Napoli face Fiorentina at San Paolo Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 15. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
In one of the last games of the season, Fiorentina defeated Napoli 3-0. The loss crushed Napoli’s title hopes last season and essentially ensured that Juventus won their seventh straight title. On Saturday, Napoli host Fiorentina at San Paolo Stadium in the first game following the international break.
Napoli lost their last game before the international break, 3-0 against Sampdoria. Carlo Ancelotti decided to rotate his squad and the decision proved to be costly. Last season, Maurizio Sarri decided to rest his side during Champions League and Europa League, focusing on the Serie A title race. Ancelotti appears to be taking the opposite approach this season with Champions League kicking off on Tuesday.
Ancelotti’s other big decision since taking over for Sarri is starting Arkadiusz Milik over Dries Mertens. Both players have scored once this season but Mertens has been the more dangerous player. Napoli will rely on their front three to create chances against Fiorentina with Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon operating on the wings. Piotr Zielinski has had a very strong start to the season. The Polish midfielder has scored twice and consistently won the ball back in midfield.
Fiorentina finished eighth last season in their first season under manager Stefano Pioli. The Viola have gotten off to a strong start to the Serie A season, winning their first two games after having their opening postponed. Marco Benassi has had an incredible start to the season, scoring three goals in the first two games.
Fiorentina have a young exciting attack led by Federico Chiesa and Giovanni Simeone. Last season, the duo combined for 20 goals and 14 assists. Both players have had a strong start to the season, with both players scoring a goal and adding an assist in Fiorentina’s first two games.
