Wondering who exactly votes for the Emmys? Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered.
The Emmys are one of the most-watched award shows every year, and this year will be no different.
Television stars go down to the wire to win coveted awards such as Best Drama Actor/Actress and Best Comedy Actor/Actress, while the best of the best series on both television and streaming services fight it out to win everything from Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series to Best Variety Sketch Series.
However, the process surrounding how exactly the Emmys are given out can be a bit confusing, and the seemingly faceless voters with absolute power over the awards can give the whole show a bit of a predetermined feel.
Fortunately, the process is not as confusing as it might seem.
Who or what series receives the Emmy for each specific category is determined by “The Academy,” and, while The Academy sounds like a vague fascist organization from a bad young adult novel, it is really just an organization that consists of over 23,000 members.
These 23,000 members are divided into 30 “peer groups” based on specific fields of expertise. The members of each group votes on Emmy winners that are associated with whatever their specialty happens to be. For example, if the specialty is variety shows, they probably will not vote on the Best Drama Series category.
If the process is still a little foggy to you, you can view the official description of the process here.
Overall, this is a pretty good process, as it is designed to allow the most input in the voting process while making sure only those who specialize in certain fields have input that matters.
Make sure to check out the Emmys on Monday night to see who wins all the most coveted awards surrounding television!
