Welcome to this edition of PGA DFS Golf Fanduel Targets from FantasyCPR.com. Here you will find players to target for this weekend’s action, geared for cash games and tournament plays on Fanduel.

In this article, I will present to you some players to consider from each price tier for your PGA DFS action. Some plays will be geared toward cash games, and some for GPP. Some of course will also technically qualify as both. As we break each play down, I will be sure to specify which type of contests I am targeting that player in. I will give two players to target from the $11K-$13K, two targets from the $9K-$11K range, and two from the $7-9K range. Also don’t forget about those Bonus GPP Flyers at the very end.

About the Event:

This week, the 2018 PGA tour season comes to an end with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. East Lake has been this events permanent home since 2004, and it has also been used as the final event for the four tournament FedEx Cup Playoff since it’s inception in 2007. There are a lot of eyes on Tiger Woods, who is happy to be back at East Lake for the first time in five years. Woods won the inaugural FedEx Cup here in 2007, and pretty much dominated here all throughout the 10 year span of 2000-2009. We will see plenty of him on the television coverage I am sure, especially if he gets that putter going early!

East Lake is a fairly lengthy course, but by no means a bombers paradise. It plays at Par 70, and 7,346 yards. It is not a course for big winning scores, as the winners average score over the past six years is right around -11. This course calls more for precision, and the best ball strikers will likely come out in good shape here. This is another no-cut event, as we are down to a field of just 30. As we get closer to lock, you will likely see some chalk starting to take form if you are out looking for more research. This is the type of week to go off the grid a bit if you want to win a GPP, and play somebody that hopefully nobody is on. With only 30 to choose from, there is still bound to be somebody who notches a top 10 under 5% ownership, and that’s what we will need to win this week.

Event History:

The actual Tour Championship as it is now, has been around since 1987, when it was originally known as the Nabisco Championship. It has been dubbed the Tour Championship since 1991, and has long been a staple of being a 30 man event, even prior to the introduction of the FedEx Cup Playoff series in 2007. Instead of FedEx points as it goes by now to be in the field, it used to be the top 30 money winners of the season were invited here.

Up until 2004, the Tour Championship was a rotating event, having been hosted at East Lake three times prior to becoming this events permanent home. Xander Schauffele is back looking for a repeat, as he was able to hold off runner-up Justin Thomas by one stroke. Previous winners looking for another victory in the field include 2016 champ Rory McIlroy and 2014 champ Billy Horschel. After an impressive showing last week at the BMW Championships, Justin Rose is your overall favorite at this point, with 7-1 odds.

PGA DFS Golf Top Tier Targets: ($11,000 – $13,000)

Justin Rose – $11,200 – (Cash)

The 38-year-old has battled back problems as recent as a month or so ago when he missed the cut at The Northern Trust. Those troubles seem to be well behind him, as he has responded with back-to-back second place finishes, including a playoff loss to Keegan Bradley last week at the BMW Championship, where they shot -20.

More from FanSided

Being he is the favorite, he will likely be pretty chalky in all formats, and I am not planning to fade him. In this field of 30, he seems MOST likely to finish in the top five the most times, if they were to play here ten times. While he has not won here at East Lake, his track record is pretty impressive. He has finished in the top-10 here five straight years, with two second place finishes, and a fourth. Rose is hot and does well here. Play him.

Bryson DeChambeau – $11,200 – (GPP)

The price has jumped ahead of Justin Thomas for starters, that right there should  lower his ownership a bit. DeChambeau has put together a fantastic season, and has a shot at his first FedEx Cup, after winning the first two events of the series. Truthfully, he has earned this salary and deserves to be up here, I just think casual players will look elsewhere this week. He followed his victories at the The Northern Trust and the Dell Championships with a T-19 at the BMW Championship, and that could be another reason for people to fade him.

Prior to the FedEx Cup Playoff series, DeChambeau’s game had been off since mid-June, where he cracked the top-10 with a T-9 at the Travelers Championship. Prior to that however, Bryson was playing some good golf periodically, with five top-5’s, including his win at the Memorial. With three wins on the season now, and two in the last month, I hope he gets as overlooked this weekend as I think he will.

PGA DFS Golf: Mid Tier Targets: ($9,000 – $11,000)

Tony Finau – $10,300 – (Cash)

As far as form goes, there is nobody overall better than Finau has been over the last month, and throughout the FedEx Playoff cup series. Three straight top-10’s have put him contention to hoist the cup, as he currently sits in third place in the standings, behind Rose and DeChambeau. Also of note, is that since his opening round +4 at the PGA Championship, he has rattled off 15 straight rounds under par. This means he hasn’t shot a round over par in over a month. Known as a bomber off the tee last year in his rookie campaign, his short game has come together nicely this season, and he is now a week in and week out threat to compete. He made his debut here at East Lake last year, and finished T-7. He is simply priced too low and will likely be pretty chalky because of it.

Webb Simpson – $10,100 – (Cash/GPP)

He seems to be being sort of slept on so far, but we are still a few days away before tee-off. Simpson is another player who has been playing well of late, and also has played well here at East Lake. A victory this weekend could seal a FedEx Cup Championship, as he currently sits 11th in the standings. Simpson actually didn’t qualify for this event in 2014-2016, but finished 4th in 2013 and T-5 in 2012. He returned last year, and finished T-13.

Simpson hasn’t missed a cut since late-June, and has posted a top-25 finish in five of the eight events he has played since then. He struggled a bit in the final two rounds of the Dell Technologies Championship, after being among the leaders after the first two. He slipped all the way to a T-49, and it looked like he was fading fast. He did, however, bounce back nicely at the BMW Championship, shooting four rounds in the 60’s, and finishing T-6. I think his cash ownership will likely be a little high, but his GPP has a chance to be sub 20% hopefully.

PGA DFS Golf Low Tier Targets: ($7,000 – $9,000)

Xander Schauffele – $8,900 – (Cash)

Schauffele will likely get some serious consideration this week, considering he held off Justin Thomas to win here at East Lake last year. At under $9K, taking last years champ in itself would seem like an ideal play. However, also of note with Schauffele, is the fact that he was among the top of the leaderboard after two rounds with a score of -13 last week at the BMW Championship, but couldn’t quite get enough going over the weekend to pull off a victory. He finished T-3, and that should no doubt give him an edge coming in to the Tour Championship this weekend.

Patrick Cantlay – $8,900 – (GPP)

We will need some low ownership guys for a big win, Cantlay could be just the guy in that spot this week. His FedEx Cup Playoff series started with a T-8 at the Northern Trust, but it was all downhill from there. He followed that with a T-24 at the Dell Technologies, and he tailed off into a T-55 finish at the BMW.

Cantlay has battled back problems all season, and I think that fact, along with the fact his form is going the wrong way, will certainly keep most people off of him this week. I think the extra week of rest could be just what he needs to give four good rounds, and I think he makes a great pivot from Schauffele. Cantlay played the Tour Championship for the first time last year, and finished T-20.
