Galatasaray face Lokomotiv Moscow at Turk Telekom Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Champions League campaign gets underway on Tuesday with Turkish champions Galatasaray hosting Russian champions Lokomotiv Moscow in Istanbul. Galatasaray have been a fixture in European competitions but have not made it out of the Champions League group stage since 2013-14. Lokomotiv have been a regular in Europa League but Tuesday will be their first Champions League game since 2003-04.
After five games, Galatasaray are first in the Turkish Super Lig, winning four games. The Lions have scored 14 goals over their first five games with five players scoring at least two goals. Eren Derdiyok scored his team-best third goal of the season in Galatasaray’s game Friday against Kasimpasa. Galatasaray sold Badou Ndiaye to Stoke in January as the English club attempted to avoid relegation. When the Potters were relegated, they agreed to loan Ndiaye back to the Turkish club. Ndiaye will operate in the middle of the field and will dictate the pace of play for the home side.
While Lokomotiv Moscow was the seeded in the first pot at the draw, every team was hoping to be drawn with them. The Russian champions have struggled to start the season, picking up only nine points in their first seven games of the season. Lokomotiv drew with Dinamo Moscow in their last game. Manager Yuri Semin decided to rest a few of his regulars. Fedor Smolov signed with Lokomotiv in the summer after scoring 14 goals for Krasnodar. Smolov has scored only once for his new club but has only played in five of the first seven games.

Group D might not be the most talented group with Schalke, Porto, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow but it is a very even group, where anyone of the teams could win the group. Lokomotiv and Galatasaray were in the same Champions League group in 2002-03, with the two teams splitting the two games.
