Tom Brady hopes Josh Gordon has a team-first mindset

Newly acquired Josh Gordon is a high-risk, high-reward situation for the New England Patriots. Quarterback Tom Brady hopes that the team’s newest addition has a team-first mindset.

The acquisition of Josh Gordon puts the New England Patriots at 28 transactions at the receiver spot this season. Gordon, the biggest, but riskiest of the transactions, arrives in New England after giving the Cleveland Browns all they could bear.

Tom Brady and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick are accustomed to taking on head cases and while the results vary, the Patriots usually come out on top of the situation in the end.

Because of the number of roster moves at the position, Brady has remained diplomatic on Gordon’s arrival, taking the wait-and-see approach.

But most importantly, Brady is looking for Gordon to come in with a lunch-pail work ethic and a team-first attitude.

"“I am not making — I hate to make projections and expectations. That’s not fair and I have never met Josh personally, just like I hadn’t met some of the guys who have come in the last couple of weeks. We’ll see how it goes this week. Hopefully, he can work hard, put the team first and end up helping us in any role he can find for himself on the team.”"

Gordon’s transaction is perhaps a reaction to the Patriots’ lackluster Sunday outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Pats only mustered 220 yards through the air, as the Jaguars defense limited Rob Gronkowski to 15 yards in their 31-20 victory.

If things go right, though, the acquisition of Gordon will pay off perhaps sooner than later. Julian Edelman returns after Week 4, giving Brady three players who can have 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

But as Brady stated, it all is up to Gordon, and the Patriots would be the wrong place to not succeed at if your reputation is already in shambles.
