2019 NFL Mock Draft: Cardinals nab Ed Oliver
By Brad Weiss
The Kansas City Chiefs made a move to go up in the draft during the 2017 NFL Draft, selecting Patrick Mahomes II from Texas Tech. Mahomes was seen as a very raw talent, although possessing the kind of arm that does not come around too often, so it made sense that the Chiefs would go up and get him, especially with Alex Smith already at the position.
Last season, Mahomes got to sit back and watch Smith prepare for games, and perform in games, as he led the Chiefs to another AFC West title. This season, it is Mahomes’ turn to lead the Chiefs, and boy is he doing that, as he has set an NFL record by throwing for ten touchdowns during the first two games of the season.
This Chiefs team is loaded on both sides of the ball, and if this is what they are going to get from Mahomes on a week-to-week basis, they are the best team in the AFC. On defense, there are still some holes, especially in the secondary, and on the edge, and they should try to address that in the first round of the draft next April.
One player who could be available this late in round on is Brian Burns from Florida State, who has a tremendous motor, and is keen on getting the edge. He has been a standout during his time with the Seminoles, and while his team is not having such a great year, that should do nothing to affect his draft stock, which has had first round written on it for the last two seasons.
