4. South Florida Bulls (AAC) 3-0

Only two Group of 5 teams have multiple wins over teams from Power 5 conferences already. They are the next two teams on the list. South Florida beat a Power 5 team for the second consecutive week with a 25-19 win over Illinois. The Bulls beat Georgia Tech last week.

USF needed a comeback to do it. They were trailing 19-7 after three quarters. Blake Barnett hit Darnell Salomon with a 14-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the 4th quarter.

After a field goal made it 19-17, the Bulls had the ball at midfield with two and a half minutes to go. Barnett hit Salomon again for a 50-yard score to take the lead.

Illinois then drove down to the USF 20-yard line before time ran out.

Barnett finished with 411 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Randall St. Felix and Mitchell Wilcox both went over 100 yards receiving, and Salomon got close with 95.

Up next: Saturday vs. East Carolina.

3. Boise State Broncos (MWC) 2-1

The nation’s best Group of 5 team entering Week 3 faced Oklahoma State in a game that resulted in the Broncos receiving their first loss of the year and ending any chance of crashing the Playoff party or a New Year’s Six bowl.

The Broncos actually had more first downs in the game than Oklahoma State, 23-19. The total yards were practically even as well, as Boise St. finished with 414 to OSU’s 422.

Brett Rypien looked good throwing the ball against the Oklahoma State defense, completing 39 of 56 passes with 380 yards and three scores. Seven different receivers had at least 30 yards through the air. But the Broncos had a few mistakes that turned it into a blowout.

Haden Hoggarth missed a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter. Alexander Mattison came one yard short of converting a 4th-and-6 at the Oklahoma State 32-yard line in the second quarter. Joel Velazquez had a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.

That all adds up to an easy Cowboys victor and leaves Boise St. with a missed opportunity to snag a big road win.

Up next: Sept. 29 at Wyoming.
