PGA Tour Championship 2018 tee times: Thursday, Round 1
By Luke Norris
Here are the tee times for Round 1 of the Tour Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
After a grueling season, the final 30 players are set to tee it up at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Thursday for the Tour Championship, the final leg of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs, and there’s some monster pairings set for the first round.
Unlike most events that have pairings or groupings set for the first two rounds, the Tour Championship does things a little differently. With just 30 players in the field, players are paired in the first round according to their spot in the FedEx Cup standings (which you’ll see below in parentheses) and then change according to their standing in the tournament for round two, which would normally happen on the weekend.
FedEx Cup points leader Bryson DeChambeau, who vaulted to the top spot in the standings by virtue of his win at the Northern Trust, and then followed it up with a victory in Boston, will be in the final group of the day with new world number one Justin Rose, who narrowly missed out on a win two weeks ago at the BMW Championship. The penultimate group will feature Tony Finau and former world number one Dustin Johnson. Sitting fifth in the standings is defending FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas and he’ll be joined by Keegan Bradley, who jumped all the way from 52nd to sixth in the standings with his win at the BMW.
While Bradley is in good position to win the FedEx Cup and the $10 million prize that goes along with it, he’s just one spot out of where a player wants to be. With a win at the Tour Championship, which brings a nice $1.62 million check with it, any of the top five players also automatically win the FedEx Cup and the $10 million bonus that goes along with that.
As for Tiger Woods, he comes into Atlanta in the 20th spot in the FedEx Cup standings and begins the Tour Championship alongside Tommy Fleetwood in another featured pairing. Another great duo includes Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm, both of whom are ranked in the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking. It’s certainly going to be a fun opening round.
Here are the tee times for the first round of the Tour Championship from East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. All golfers will be teeing off from the first tee. (All times Eastern.)
