Fantasy Football: Will Fuller is the Key to DeShaun Watson’s Success

Quick! Name a few of the most iconic duos of all time! Batman and Robin. Peanut Butter and Jelly. Keenan and Kel. DeShaun Watson and…Will Fuller? You read that right. DeShaun Watson and Will Fuller. While the sample size is still relatively small, a look into Watson’s career numbers with Fuller on the field as opposed to Fuller on the sideline make it abundantly clear that no player is more important to the Texans offense than the third year wide receiver out of Notre Dame. Nope, not even DeAndre Hopkins. One of my favorite stats is that Fuller has never played a game with Watson where he hasn’t been able to grab at least one touchdown. In 5 career games together, the pair have hooked up for an astounding 8 touchdowns!

Dating back to 2017, Watson has now started 8 games for the Houston Texans. 5 games with Fuller, and 3 games without Fuller. Take a look at how the numbers break down.

  • 5 Games With Fuller
  • Quarterback Rating – 116.96
  • 99/156, 1,481 yards, 18 touchdowns, 6 interceptions
  • 20/31, 296, 3.6 touchdowns, 1.2 interceptions per game
  • 32.02 DraftKings points per game
  • 3 Games Without Fuller
  • Quarterback Rating 76.35
  • Total Stats – 54/91 602 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions
  • 18/30, 201 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception per game
  • 18.6 DraftKings points per game

Unfortunately, the biggest issue for this duo has been health concerns. Fuller missed the first 3 weeks of the 2017 season due to injury. He made his return in week 4 and the rest is history. With Fuller in the lineup, Watson was on a historic pace before suffering an untimely ACL injury in a week 8 shootout with Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.

More from FanSided

Fast forward to 2018, and the trend of Will Fuller being the key to DeShaun Watson’s success has continued. Watson disappointed in week 1, throwing for 176 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. However, like clockwork, Fuller returned in time for week 2 and Watson was able to throw for 310 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

The same hamstring injury that held Fuller out of week 1, has caused him to be limited in practice this week. It seems as though the Texans are just being cautious with their star receiver, and he is fully expected to play in this week’s matchup with the New York Giants. You can fire up Watson and Fuller with confidence in season long leagues. I’m especially interested in a Watson/Fuller stack in DFS in week 3. With DFS players flocking to the Chiefs/49ers and Saints/Falcons, the dynamic duo from Houston will be overlooked despite their massive ceiling. Will Fuller is the key to DeShaun Watson’ success, and as long as they’re on the field together, you can count on more fantasy goodness!
