Top fantasy hockey options for the Boston Bruins

Welcome back to the next installment of the top position players for fantasy hockey success. Tonight, we at FantasyCPR will focus on the Boston Bruins of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. If you missed the last preview of the Detroit Red Wings, here is the jist. The exercise is intended to help you prepare for your Fantasy Hockey season by providing a team-by-team preview of potential leaders at each position. We will cover our favorite fantasy centers, wingers, defenseman, and goalies with a few honorable mentions.

The Bruins made it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year before being ousted by the Tampa Bay Lightning. They finished the season 2nd in the Atlantic Division with an impressive 112 points. There is a lot of star power in Boston as they should once again finish near the top of their division. Let’s take a peek at who could help you win your fantasy league this year!

Honorable Mentions – W Jake DeBrusk, C/W Danton Heinen, D Charlie McAvoy

C – Patrice Bergeron

Bergy has been one of the more consistent centers in the NHL. His coaches and teammates trust him on both ends of the ice and for good reason. He has finished in the top-3 for the Selke Award in a remarkable seven consecutive seasons. Now good defense for a center does not always translate to fantasy success. But in Bergeron’s case, it has. In three of the last five seasons he has 30 or more goals. In all five of those seasons he has dished out 30 assists. He has outstanding possession numbers as well with a Corsi and Fenwick For % that generally sits in the mid to upper 50’s.

W – Brad Marchand

There are many words to describe Brad Marchand. Sure, he licked an opponent last season, but we can keep it PG here with some of those words. Chippy. Pesky. No Quit. High-Motor. Extremely Effective. It seems safe to say that Marchand is not a fan favorite outside of Boston. He has molded himself into one of the best wingers in the NHL.

Marchand hs made it to three straight All-Star games and has back-to-back 80+ point seasons. He has three consecutive 30+ goal seasons and gets a ton of ice time on the power play. He finished last year with eight goals and 15 assists with a man advantage.

W – David Pastrnak

Owner of one of the worst tape jobs in the NHL. @ me with a worse tape job than Pasta. The BarDown Staff at BarDown described it best, “Hockey fans are confused by his bizarre tape job.” Don’t let the tape fool you though. He played in all 82 games last season which led to a career high in goals and assists.. Pastrnak had his first 80 point season of his young career and looks poised to repeat. ESPN has him ranked as a top-5 winger along with his line-mate Marchand. The top line is a nightmare for opponents. If you play DFS, consider stacking this potent line.

D – Torey Krug

Krug has been solid for the Bruins since 2013-14. He finished fourth for the Calder Trophy, and has steadily increased his points each season. He broke 50 two seasons ago, and nearly hit 60 last year. A good strategy to live by regarding fantasy hockey defenders is to pick up the guys on high-powered offenses.

G – Tuukka Rask

Rask may not be what he was a few years ago, but he is still a higher end goaltender. With a similar mindset as you would have when drafting defense, it pays to own a goalie on a team known as an offensive powerhouse. The obvious reason for this strategy is the higher probability of earning a win. Rask has five consecutive 30+ win seasons. He has also held opponents to less than 2.5 goals per game in 8/11 NHL seasons. He is a pretty safe bet to earn a bundle of wins once again.
