Over and Back: Greatest games for new basketball Hall-of-Famers

This week on the Over and Back Classic NBA Podcast, Jason and Rich look at the greatest games for new Basketball Hall of Famers Ray Allen, Maurice Cheeks, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Grant Hill and Charlie Scott.

Discussions and games mentioned include a career-high 54 points from Allen in 2007 as a member of the Seattle SuperSonics, the Boston Celtics/Chicago Bulls amazing playoff series from 2009 including a masterful triple-overtime performance from Allen.

Maurice Cheeks with a dominating few weeks in 1987 including a 31 point, 12 assist performance against Detroit as well as a rookie performance that put him on the map in 1980.

Jason Kidd’s breakout sophomore campaign featuring arguably his best game of all-time with a 33 point, 16 assist, 12 rebound performance against his future team (Phoenix) and a playoff career-high 34 points against Detroit in 2003 to help lead New Jersey to their second straight NBA Finals.

Steve Nash and Jason Kidd duel in one of the greatest regular season games in NBA history in 2006 as Nash caps off an unbelievable night with 42 points. We also look at another overtime game, this time Nash leading his new team (Phoenix) against his old team (Dallas) en route to the next round of the NBA Playoffs in 2005.

Grant Hill scores a career-high 46 points without taking a single three pointer in 1999 and later that year scores 23 points against Atlanta in the Eastern Conference First Round. We also look at a suspicious drop off of Hill’s playoff numbers compared to his regular season output.

Last but not least, the best NBA and ABA games for Charlie Scott including a 42 point performance in 1972 against Detroit as well as a 38 point explosion in the 1971 ABA Eastern Conference Semifinals as Scott leads his Virginia Squires against Rick Barry and the New York Nets.
