Sony Michel leads the New England Patriots in carries

In his first action of the year, Sony Michel led the New England Patriots in carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He showed flashes of why the Patriots used a first round pick to bring him into the mix.

This week the Patriots face the lowly Detroit Lions on Sunday Night football. New England will be looking to make a statement against their former defensive coordinator, Matt Patricia, who is now Detroit’s head coach.

The Patriots were forced to move to a more pass-heavy attack against the Jaguars because of the flow of the game. New England found themselves trailing early and playing catchup for most of the game.

Detroit’s run defense has been terrible so far this year already allowing over 350 yards in just two games.

New England’s offensive attack has changed from week to week based on matchup. Josh McDaniels likes to develop a specific game plan that helps his team attack the opponents greatest weakness.

This week it’s the Lions run defense where McDaniels can use the explosive Michel to exploit.

The one concern is that it’s difficult to predict who the Patriots will feature from week to week. Michel is a strong candidate to get a large chunk of the touches because of his status as a first round pick.

However, James White and Rex Burkhead are proven veterans who have a place in this offense.
