Manchester City travel to Wales looking to get all three points against newly-promoted Cardiff City, as well as to regain some measure of confidence following their Champions League home defeat to Lyon. Pep Guardiola will be hoping to count on Sergio Aguero and Benjamin Mendy, both nursing injuries. This is the type of opponent that City desperately need on the domestic front following their record-breaking (for an English club) four straight Champions League loss.
With the game against City, Cardiff are completing the rude-awakening trio of consecutive games against Premier League powerhouses Chelsea, Arsenal and City. Surprisingly, manager Neil Warnock has mentioned that he’d like to offer the fans some entertainment, which may explain the relatively open style shown by the Bluebirds as well as the high number of goals conceded — seven in the games against Chelsea and Arsenal. On the injury front, Warnock is awaiting the fitness test results on Josh Murphy, Harry Arter and Aron Gunnarsson, while Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is a long-term absentee.
