DraftKings Early CFB picks September 22: Dillon should run wild
There are ten games selected for the early Saturday DraftKings tournament. All of the involved are power five teams and names you recognize. There are some good games, and a few that could turn into blowouts. Who can come up big for us here?

Last Saturday’s early slate cashed thanks to Ursua, who had a big game despite Hawaii’s loss. Ollison was a monster for under $5,000!
The scoring for NCAA football is much the same as it is for the NFL with one notable exception: the super flex! That means aside from the flex position which is RB/WR, you can add another player from any position! Want four running backs? Go right ahead! Five wide receivers? Sure! Two quarterbacks? Of course! Just stay under the salary cap! There is also late swap, which is essential for contests with start times spanning several hours (are you listening for the NBA, DraftKings?).

Top Tier:
Dwayne Haskins ($10,700): There could come a point in what will likely be a blowout win against Tulane that the Buckeyes may decide to save Haskins for conference season. Maybe. Urban Meyer is back patrolling the sidelines here, so maybe not. Haskins had his biggest game against Oregon State in the opener, but he has looked good in all three games. You know you’re getting right around 30 DraftKings points, which would still leave us a little under 3x value.
Will Grier ($10,500): Kansas State’s normally solid defense has been gouged at times this season, especially by Mississippi State. Grier roughed up Tennessee in the opener and was methodical in the dismantling of Bo Pelini and Youngstown State. I don’t see Grier putting up the huge numbers that he did in those games, but another 30+ DraftKings point game is possible.
Middle Tier:
Jake Fromm ($7,300): This tier is littered with run-first offenses in favorable situations. We saw what Purdue did to Missouri last weekend. If Fromm decides to throw, there are some big plays available against this defense. Brown from BC and Patterson from Michigan are both worth considering, but if I’m using a QB on a run first team, I want it to be against a team that can’t stop anything. That’s Missouri. They gave up 572 passing yards to David Blough last week.
Adrian Martinez ($6,600): It seems as though Martinez will play against Michigan. This is a tough defense in his first road game, but the price looks good here so long as Martinez can still make plays with his legs. This is a risk, but most quarterbacks are on this slate for one reason or another. At least Martinez is the focal point of the Nebraska offense when he is in there.
Taquon Marshall ($6,400): This is a tough Clemson defense, but Marshall is in play because of the amount of touches he gets. Marshall carried 28 times last week after tallying 22 carries in the first two games. Marshall will get enough rushing yards to make him worth this price even if the passing suffers.
Bargain Shoppers:
Sam Hartman ($6,300): Notre Dame had issues with both Kyle Shurmer and Riley Neal. Hartman throws enough passes to rack up some solid points. Since Wake will be playing from behind the whole game, I see Hartman getting plenty of chances to break 20 DraftKings points for the fourth straight game. I’ll take that for his price.
Kellen Mond ($6,000): Mond can chuck it, that’s for sure. He threw for 430 yards against a strong Clemson defense. Alabama’s D is better than Clemson’s, but we are still going to see Mond air it out trying to keep up. A lot. For $6,000, Mond is worth the risk of playing against Alabama.
Skylar Thompson ($5,500): Thompson finally made some kind of separation in the ongoing K-State quarterback battle. West Virginia’s offense overshadows the fact that the defense isn’t that strong. There are yards to be had here against the Mountaineers. For this price, it’s worth seeing if Thompson can build off of last week’s performance.

Top Tier:
AJ Dillon ($9,000): The more I look at this slate, the more I realize that paying down at QB isn’t a horrible option. Rountree ran wild on Purdue last week, and Dillon is likely better than him. On top of that, BC is a run first team. Dillon has not been under 20 DraftKings points yet this season, and that includes his six carry day in a rout of Holy Cross. Dillion is about as close to a sure thing as you can get.
J.K. Dobbins ($8,100): Mike Weber is still seeing a healthy dose of carries, but Dobbins is the more explosive player. I’m actually not opposed to using either of them, or both, but with the price difference just $300, Dobbins is the safer pick. Both could have a strong game in what likely will be a blowout of Tulane.
Middle Tier:
D’Andre Swift ($7,400): Missouri was mostly torched in the passing game, but their run D wasn’t great either. Georgia will throw if they have to, but this is a team that likes to run and is built to run. Swift could be in for a big game, but I almost prefer Holyfield due to the price. Swift hasn’t seen more than 12 carries in any of the first three games. They haven’t really needed him, but that makes is hard to pay this kind of a price for him.
Qadree Ollison ($6,500): I’m riding the wave here. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that North Carolina’s defense is pretty awful. If Ollison can pick up over 100 yards on Penn State, I’m not really scared to use him against anyone. We could see a monster game from Ollison here. North Carolina hasn’t been impressive at all, and Ollison is getting somewhere around 20 touches.
Bargain Shoppers:
Pooka Williams ($5,700): Williams ran over Rutgers and Central Michigan. Kansas would likely be 3-0 if they had used him in the first game. I don’t see why Williams is so cheap. The Baylor defense isn’t all that good. Williams looks like a free 20-25 DraftKings points at a very low price. Pooka will be chalk, but I think we have to use him here.
Maurice Washington ($4,600): Nebraska uses more running backs than any team, but Washington, the true freshman, is the guy that can hit the home run any time he touches the ball. This is a tough matchup against Michigan, but he is the true definition of a GPP dart. Washington is going to be low owned, and is a home run threat any time he is up (sorry….still in baseball mode).

Top Tier:
Jerry Jeudy ($8,400): First it was Cooper. Then Ridley. Now Jeudy is the home run threat for the Tide. They have two quarterbacks that always look for him deep. That makes Jeudy about as safe as a receiver can be. Jeudy only has 11 catches in three games, but he has 287 yards and six touchdowns. Dont be shy. A&M will give up big plays.
Greg Dortch ($7,900): Kalija Lipscomb had a strong game against the Irish last week. Dortch would be the guy to do it here. He is the focal point of the Wake offense. Don’t expect Dortch to really break anything deep, but he has 28 catches in three games. Hartman throws to him A LOT. That many targets keeps Dortch in play even against Notre Dame.
Jalen Hurd ($7,600): Hurd seems so far removed from the disaster that was Tennessee. He moved to receiver, but his big play ability is still on display. The Bears have used him out of the backfield on occasion, and this is still a team that throws the ball around a lot.

Middle Tier:
Donovan Peoples-Jones ($7,000): This is the place to attack Nebraska. Their run defense has been okay, but they have been burned deep in both games. They will be again. Peoples-Jones is the best deep threat for Michigan, but the exposure is certainly not limited to him.
Rondale Moore ($6,900): Moore’s price is up to the point where it’s kind of hard to use him, but he has been one of the most electric players in the country over the first month. Moore has already topped 30 DraftKings points twice in three games. He may not quite hit that against a good BC defense, but Purdue is going to get him the ball one way or another.
Bargain Shoppers:
Darnell Mooney ($4,400): Jonathan Banks only completed seven passed last week. Mooney caught four of them. Banks is going to have an awful game in Columbus, but if last week is an indicator of anything, Mooney should still put up solid numbers here, especially at this low of a price.
Jared Sparks ($4,300): Does the price on Moore have you down? Sparks, the converted quarterback, has proven to be a solid possession receiver for a team that is going to throw the ball a lot. Sparks lacks the big play ability of Moore, but the sheer amount of volume makes him worth a look at this price.
JD Spielman ($4,100): We have yet to really see what the Nebraska offense can do. Spielman is getting almost the same number of targets at the far more expensive Stanley Morgan, and he is probably the better playmaker. We did see SMU get deep a couple of times last week. Once is all it takes at this price!
