High-flying Liverpool head into Saturday’s match against Southampton with a perfect record of five wins from five. Former Saints star Sadio Mane has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s key men this season with the Senegalese forward having netted four goals already. He will be hoping to be on the score-sheet again come Saturday as the Reds chase another three points.
Liverpool also have matches coming up against Chelsea (who they play twice), Napoli and Manchester City, so it’s possible Klopp will rotate his side for Saturday’s game, the Reds’ easiest, at least on paper, of the month. Summer signings Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri could both be handed starts if Klopp does decide to rest players ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup match against Chelsea.
Southampton are coming off a disappointing 2-2 draw with Brighton, a game in which they led 2-0. The problems at St. Mary’s are much the same as they have been for the past couple of seasons. They’re comfortable on the ball, and often dominate games, but too often their play fizzles out as it approaches the final third.
