NFL DFS DraftKings Top Stacks for Week 3
By Ben McDaniel
If you read my article, How to Win the DraftKings Millionaire Maker Contest, you already know how important it is that you include at least one team stack in your NFL DFS lineup. Remember that in 2017, 13 out of 15 winning Millionaire Maker lineups included at least one stack! So which players should you be targeting in week 3? Here are a few of my favorite NFL DFS DraftKings Top Stacks for Week 3! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @BenMcD_Sports as I’ll be sharing updates on my top stacks as we get closer to kickoff!
NFL DFS Highly Owned DraftKings Top Stacks
Patrick Mahomes $7,000, Tyreek Hill $8,500, Sammy Watkins $5,100
Mahomes is currently hotter than Oklahoma pavement in July, and his price finally reflects his performance. Despite the high salary, he’ll be one of the more popular options at quarterback in week 3. It’s never a bad idea to get exposure to the most explosive offense in football, especially when you consider that the lineup that took down the DraftKings Millionaire Contest last week had FOUR Chiefs players. Richard Sherman is questionable for Sunday’s matchup, but even if he plays, he has about as good of a chance of shutting down Tyreek Hill as I do. The San Francisco secondary just doesn’t have the speed to contain weapons like Hill and Watkins. However, if you want to use a Chiefs heavy lineup this week, you’ll need to hit on quite a few value plays at other positions.
Drew Brees $6,400 and Alvin Kamara $9,500
Brees’ salary is inexplicably low considering that Sunday’s matchup is expected to be a high scoring affair. Unless you have a ton of cheap value plays you want to roll with, you’ll most likely have to choose whether to stack Brees with Kamara or Thomas. I wouldn’t fault anyone who wants to hitch their wagon to a guy like Thomas who has just been dismantling opposing secondaries. However, if forced to choose, I like Kamara more this week. McCaffery just got done shredding the Falcons defense for 14 catches, and we should see more of the same from Kamara. This graph perfectly illustrates just how productive passing catching running backs have been against the Atlanta defense over the past few years.
You’re going to want a piece of the Saints offense in your lineup, and the stars are perfectly aligned for Brees and Kamara to connect for a ton of fantasy points this Sunday. They’ll be highly owned, but sometimes the chalk play is the right play.
Matt Ryan $5,700 and Julio Jones $7,900
Speaking of chalk – The Ryan/Julio stack is going to be found in plenty of lineups this Sunday. There’s really no reason for either player to be as cheap as they are, and they have a huge ceiling in what should be a shootout with Brees and the Saints. Julio Jones leads the NFL in Air Yards, and it’s only a matter of time until Ryan hits Jones for a deep touchdown. Of course, if you want to see Jones catch a score it will probably have to be on a deep ball since he’s such an inefficient red zone target. Nonetheless, this stack should produce good numbers on Sunday and is quite a bit cheaper than the options from Kansas City and New Orleans.
NFL DFS DraftKings Lower Owned Top Stacks
DeShaun Watson $6,100 and Will Fuller $5,900
I’ve been banging this drum all week-long, so it’s only right that they are featured here. If you need some convincing, take a few minutes and read this article I just wrote – Fantasy Football: Will Fuller is the Key to DeShaun Watson’s Success. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from that article is that Watson and Fuller have recorded at least one touchdown in each of the 5 games they’ve played together. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that when a QB/WR duo has hit pay dirt 8 times in 5 games, they share a pretty special connection. A few important notes about the New York defense this week – The Giants are expected to use Janoris Jenkins to shadow DeAndre Hopkins, and Eli Apple is expected to miss the game with a groin injury. That means that Will Fuller will be lined up against B.W. Webb on the majority of snaps. That’s a matchup I expect Houston to try to exploit early and often. With so many NFL DFS players targeting guys from SF/KC and NO/ATL, there’s a good chance Watson and Fuller will be overlooked. They’re one of my favorite stacks of the week.

Ezekiel Elliott $7,300 and Cowboys DST $2,200
Have you heard any analysts talk about Ezekiel Elliott leading up to his week 3 matchup with Seattle? I haven’t. That’s usually a good indication that a player will be overlooked. With sexier options like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, and Melvin Gordon all within $100-$300 of Elliott, the Cowboys running back is set up nicely as a great GPP play. Zeke is averaging a solid 18.7 points per game, but has a good chance to blow past that this week. After scoring only 8 points in the opener, Dallas responded by posting 20 points in week 2. As Dak Prescott continues to build a rapport with his new receiving corps, the Cowboys should find themselves in a position to score much more often. That of course, will be huge for Zeke’s fantasy outlook. Another encouraging sign is that Dallas seemed to make it a point of emphasis to target Zeke in the passing game last week. The 5 receptions Zeke recorded in week 2 tied a career high, and stacking him with the Dallas DST is a move I really like in tournaments this week. If Dallas is able to grab a lead, they’ll look to grind the clock by feeding Zeke. An early lead also means the dominant Dallas defensive line will be able to pin their ears back to try to pressure Russell Wilson, who just so happens to be playing behind an offensive line that’s leakier than the Titanic. Eat, Zeke, Eat!
Andrew Luck $5,600 and T.Y. Hilton $6,700
This is contingent upon the quad injury that Hilton has been dealing with. If he is in any way limited, I want no part of this Colts offense. However, if he is 100%, I think we could see some fireworks on Sunday. This Eagles defense has really taken a step back from last season when they were one of the best in the league. Through two games, take a look at some of the big days they’ve allowed.
- Week 1
- Julio Jones -10 catches, 169 yards
- Week 2
- Ryan Fitzpatrick – 27/33, 402 yards, 4 Touchdowns
- Mike Evans – 10 catches, 83 yards, 1 Touchdown
- DeSean Jackson – 4 catches, 129 yards, 1 Touchdown
Of note, is that in both games Philadelphia has played, the opposing team’s #1 WR has managed to have a big game. Hilton has been targeted 11 times in each of the Colts two games, and with Jack Doyle ruled out, he could get even more looks from Andrew Luck. With the Eagles expected to be missing Jay Ajayi in this game, and the Colts once again having an anemic rushing attack, we could see both teams implement pass-heavy game plans, and Luck should have no problem matching the 42 pass attempts he’s averaging so far this season. At $12,300 – this stack gives you the salary relief to spend up at other positions.
