Here’s how Tennessee can upset Florida
1. Make Feleipe Franks try to win the game
When you look at Franks’ numbers on the season you can’t help but be impressed. Throwing for nine touchdowns against just two interceptions speaks well of his ability to take care of the football.
A closer look at his numbers shows he’s not quite as accurate as that ratio might suggest. Franks is only completing 53.2% of his passes on the year. Tennessee’s defense needs to try to take advantage of his inaccuracy.
To do that, Pruitt’s defense will need to be stout against the run. That’s the way Mullen wants to win this football game. Florida won’t line up and try to run over the Vols, but he’ll put a lot of pressure on the edges of Pruitt’s defense.
If Tennessee can shut down the Gators’ ground game, it will put the game in Franks’ hands in the second half. He’s got the talent to get his team an important road victory, but his inconsistency will give the Vols a big chance to get a turnover or two to turn the game in their favor. Forcing Franks to beat them is a gamble for Tennessee, but it’s the easiest path to victory for the underdogs.
