3. Winter Classic Inspired

For the Philadelphia Flyers second appearance in an outdoor game and NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic, the Flyers took to the ice with a newly designed sweater. Philadelphia’s 2012 Winter Classic jersey still portrayed a vintage appearance and the team also used an off-white for the first time.

The sweater was accepted by a majority of the City of Brotherly Love, and while the Flyers lost to the New York Rangers in the outdoor game at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia still introduced the gem as an official alternate in 2014-15.

No, this hockey jersey enthusiast isn’t a fan of the Flyers having a jersey with shortened shoulder yokes such as this sweater portrays, but it still has a better appearance on a dark jersey for Philadelphia. The orange and off-white turned out to be a great combination and a nice change of pace for the team to wear at home from time to time.

The striping on the jerseys arms and base were just right, and the draw-strings were a nice touch, especially for a historic franchise such as the Flyers. One also has to wonder if the Flyers will don a similar design and layout for a future outdoor game. The reality is that the Flyers are one of those teams that always have a strong chance at playing in a Winter Classic or Stadium Series game.

Sadly, this jersey was only worn for three seasons, but it also stands as the (tied) longest tenured alternate jersey in franchise history.
