Ranking the Philadelphia Flyers third jerseys from worst to best

2. Adidas Alternate
This hockey jersey enthusiast was ecstatic when the Philadelphia Flyers subtly announced that the sweater almost identical to the team’s 2017 Stadium Series jersey would act as the team’s first third jersey with Adidas in 2018-19.
Yes, the Flyers having another orange jersey that’s listed as an alternate is appealing, but the truth is that Philadelphia is one of those teams that can never go wrong with donning a black third jersey in the rotation.
The jersey is similar to the Flyers’ primary sweaters in relation to the layout of the overall design, but with obviously reversed color schemes. However, there is one concern with this Adidas alternate jersey.
It’s a fair argument to say that the numbers and players’ names should be filled in with white and maybe outlined, or somehow bordered, with orange. The black-out numbers that are outlined in white just doesn’t have an NHL jersey aurora to it.
The sweaters would really pop if they entailed more white throughout its appearance, and even the collar area could use a touch of white. It wouldn’t hurt to even add some sort of logo to one side of the shoulder areas, too. Though, Philadelphia made the right decision not to have the “wings,” or piping start from the shoulders and flow down the sleeves of the sweater like the primary jerseys portray.
This sweater represents only the second time in franchise history that the Flyers have a black jersey in their rotation. While Philadelphia has yet to take to the ice with these gems, the black Adidas alternate goes down as the Flyers’ second-best third jersey.
