The Giallorossi made a lot of changes in the summer as Monchi tried to work his magic in the transfer window. Key players such as Radja Nainggolan, Alisson and Kevin Strootman left the club, so the Director of Football had the unenviable task of replacing them. Unfortunately, Eusebio Di Francesco has been unable to gel the team together into a solid unit — they only have five points from their opening five games.

They certainly don’t have an issue scoring, though. They’ve scored seven so far in the league, but they’ve also conceded nine, which they have to change if they want to finish in the top four. A first choice defense of Federico Fazio, Kostas Manolas, Aleksandar Kolarov and Alessandro Florenzi isn’t the most convincing, especially when their lack of pace is exposed in a high defensive line.

There are plenty of attacking weapons, though, such as Edin Dzeko, Javier Pastore, Justin Kluivert and Cengiz Under to name just a few. This makes them an exciting side to use because of the variety of ways to break down the opposition defensive shape. The challenge is to either balance out an open attacking style with some semblance of defensive solidity or simply outscore the opposition.

Roma offer a tough test in career mode due to the strong competition at the top of the table. Juventus have dominated domestically with seven straight league titles as well as four domestic doubles while the Milanese sides and Lazio have strengthened in the summer. Napoli are still a top side as well even though they have replaced Maurizio Sarri with Carlo Ancelotti, and sold Jorginho. Therefore, winning a league title won’t be easy by any means, and there are also Champions League commitments on top of that.

This could be an exciting long-term project, though, because young talents such as Kluivert, Under, Patrick Schick and Ante Coric have plenty of room to grow, so the side from the capital could be challenging at the top for a long time if the core is kept together.
