West Virginia at Texas Tech – Over 77 points
The jokes about the lack of defense in the Big 12 quite truthfully never stop coming. However, there is also at least a modicum of truth in the jokes whenever they’re told. There’s no denying at this point that the Big 12 as a general whole is a conference driven by the strength of the offenses. And we’re going to get that on full display this week as the 12th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers head to Lubbock to face the No. 25 Texas Tech Red Raiders.
There are high-scoring shootouts in college football and then there is what this game is going to be on Saturday afternoon. This game features two teams with two of the most potent offenses in the country. West Virginia is averaging 42.3 points and 545.3 yards per game to this point in the year with Texas Tech putting up 52.0 points and 623.5 yards per game. These two teams move the ball at will and look to simply run up the score on whoever they play.
Obviously that just so happens to be one another this week, and the results should be quite fascinating. Quarterback Will Grier and Alan Bowman should air it out all day long in a back-and-forth affair on Saturday afternoon. In the Texas air, I don’t see them having any problem doing so, and for this to be a Big 12 game in the truest sense of the words. Take the over and don’t think twice about it — this one’s going to be nothing but points.
