3. Season 4

Modern Family’s fourth season included the absolutely classic episode “Schooled” in which Cam and Mitchell are forced by the school principle to have a “family playdate” with lesbian parents Pam and Susan after Cam goes off on their son Conor for seemingly bullying Lily. Would-be young school yard bully Conor had been pulling Lily’s hair, instigating the whole event.

What follows is Cam and Mitchell explaining just “why gay couples and lesbian couples don’t have as much in common as people might think.” They show how gay men and straight men are still the same gender, gay men and straight women are both attracted to the same gender, but “gay men and lesbians…nothing” with a circular gesture pushing each other back in a truly memorable bit.

Even before the playdate, Cam and Pam trade jabs back and forth hilariously which only continues into the later playdate, in which it’s eventually revealed that Lily actually has a crush on Conor! Lily and Conor lock themselves in Lily’s room until the two couples resolve their issues.

Meanwhile, Gloria and Jay take a class about taking care of a baby to refresh on the basics, only to realize they don’t really need the class after all. There’s also a moment where after Phil and Claire seemingly embarrass Haley at her first day of college, she discovers she actually appreciates it all once she’s left alone.
