Real Madrid vs. Sevilla is an underrated fixture in the Liga calender, especially when Los Blancos visit Andalusia. You would have to go back to 2012 for the last 1-0 scoreline in this fixture and even further for the last 0-0 draw.

In the intervening 11 fixtures, there have been 53 goals between the two sides, many of them tight, high-scoring fixtures. Sevilla’s record against Real Madrid has been quite good, especially at home. After back to back 6-2 home defeats to Los Blancos in 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively, Madrid have won at the Sanchez Pizjuan just once in the last five seasons. That 3-2 win ended Sevilla’s 35 match unbeaten streak at home, two years later, the Andalusian had their revenge when they ended Real Madrid’s 40-match unbeaten streak with a comeback 2-1 win.

Both sides enter this fixture in good form, Real Madrid remain unbeaten in the league and recorded their best performance of the season against Roma in the Champions League midweek. After rotating in Saturday’s 1-0 against Espanyol, Lopetegui’s men should be quite fresh despite the quick turnaround. Sevilla meanwhile are enjoying their own purple patch. They opened their account for the season with a 4-1 win over Rayo Vallencano, but had failed to score a goal in their next three matches. They ended that goal drought this week putting five past Standard Liege in the Europa League and 6 past Levante on Sunday. Ben Yedder has been leading the goalscoring charge, scoring five in his last two games and will likely be the danger man when Madrid come to Seville on Wednesday.
