Empoli and AC Milan have had difficult starts to the Serie A season. In their first season back in Serie A, Empoli have picked up four points. On Thursday, the Blues host Milan at Carlo Castellani Stadium. The Red and Blacks have five points in their first four games.

Empoli won Serie B last season, ending a one year stint in the second division. Since winning on the opening weekend of the season, the Blues have lost three of four games, picking up one point. Empoli started well against Sassuolo, with Francesco Caputo scoring in the first minute, but a second yellow card for Miha Zajc in the second half doomed the club, losing 3-1. Caputo has scored two goals this season after scoring 27 last season in Serie B and will be the focal point of their attack.

AC Milan have had a disappointing start for a team with top-four aspirations. Milan blew a two-goal lead against Napoli in their first game of the season. In their last two games, Milan drew with Cagliari and Atalanta. Milan’s inability to win games already has the club 10 points behind Juventus and five points behind the rest of the top four. Gonzalo Higuain is really starting to heat up, scoring in three straight games. However, no matter how many goals Higuain scores, Milan need to be better at the back. In four games, Milan have allowed seven games.
