Flex position, Running Back, Austin Ekeler, Los Angeles Chargers $4,200

Austin Ekeler has been as excellent flex position thus far in 2018 and his trend for Week 4 is going up as the San Francisco 49ers are ranked 10th against the rush and 27th against the pass. With Melvin Gordon handling the bulk of the carries, Ekeler should see some uptick on passing opportunities Sunday.

San Francisco has allowed a total of 384.7 yards a game, 287.7 passing yards, 97 rushing yards and 29.7 total points a game. The 49ers weak pass defense should allow Ekeler a lot of breathing room to catch passes out of the backfield on Sunday. Ekeler has managed an outstanding amount of steady production thus far given his limited amount of opportunities.

Through three games Ekeler has 163 total rushing yards on 20 carries, 132 receiving yards on 11 targets and 11 receptions. Adding a receiving touchdown. Ekeler averages 54.3 rushing yards a game and 44 receiving yards. His ability to create space and take advantage of his opportunities makes him a great flex play in Week 4.

The 49ers just lost Jimmy Garoppolo to a season-ending ACL tear. The Chargers have the perfect opportunity to get out to a big lead and pound the rock with their two talented pass-catching backs. Ekeler should see plenty of opportunities in this matchup and he will capitalize on those opportunities. He is a must start this week, there’s just too much pass catching to capitalize on that you won’t want to pass up.

Prediction: 50 receiving yards, 50 rushing yards, 2 total touchdowns, 5 receptions on 8 targets
