Fantasy Football: Week 4 Lock Plays
By Shaun Evans
Hey guys! Lets start diving into the Fantasy Football Week 4 and find out who are the lock plays for Week 4. Good luck and hope you cash big this weekend!
Recap of Week 3 “Lock Plays”
First lets start with the recap of the lock plays of Week 3. I did some mix and matching while also locking in all four players into one line-up which may have hurt me more then it helped. So for Fantasy Football Week 4, we will be more focused on matching two players then throwing all four into one line-up.
First up was Patrick Mahomes who we expected to dominate the San Francisco 49ers and he did. He brought in 28.6 points in a game that quickly got out of hand and one of his weapons and our lock play, Sammy Watkins brought in 18.50 points. Saquon Barkley came out of the gate blazing and finished with a total of 22.70.
Barkley did cool down in what looked like could be a very dominating performance though when he was at 12 points before the first quarter even ended. Then there was Jordan Howard, who I thought would put up more then he did against the Arizona defense with 16.10.
We’ll chalk that up as a L just because we expected more. Then to top it all off, Michael Thomas came in with 25.90 which I’m handing myself a L because I expected him to finish in the 30-40 point range like Kamara and Drew Brees.
Now lets get into Fantasy Football Week 4 which features a slate without Patrick MaGOAT but does hold the two new exciting QB’s with Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen.
Fantasy Football Week 4 DFS Locks: Keenen Allen
Salary: Draftkings: $8,300 | Fanduel: $8,100
Keenen Allen and the San Diego Chargers come into Week 4 facing a struggling San Francisco 49ers team and while Allen is struggling himself in putting up the numbers that his stock shows, he’ll be bouncing back this week.
He only put up 44 yards on 7 catches against the impressive Los Angeles Rams and only 67 yards against the Buffalo Bills. He has also only seen the end-zone once and that was in Week 1 but expect that to change this weekend.
The 49ers are allowing 287 yards through the air and have allowed at least one receiver in their first three games to go for over a hundred yards. Allen will most likely go past the hundred yard mark Sunday and maybe even closer to 150 yards, especially with a 49ers defense that is dropping like flies.
Richard Sherman has been officially ruled out for at least one to three weeks and will miss the match-up on Sunday. Make Keenan Allen your locked in play and have exposure to him everywhere as this is a game that he should light up easily.
Fantasy Football Week 4 DFS Locks: Odell Beckham Jr.
Salary: Draftkings: $8,700 | $8,600
This man may have moved to my number 1 receiver this weekend and I’m about to tell you why. OBJ has had double digit targets two out of the three weeks this season already which is no surprise.
Healthy and paid in full, OBJ is showing no decline since coming back from injury. Putting up 111 yards in Week 1, 51 yards in Week 2, and 109 yards in Week 3, but the downside is that OBJ still hasn’t seen the end-zone but has had 25 points, 9 points, and 22 points already.
He now faces a New Orleans defense that gives up 336 yards through the air and are now without Patrick Robinson, making Odell a must “Lock” Play. The Saints have had two receivers, Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson, go for over a hundred yards in receiving plus touchdowns to both in Week 1, Antonio Callaway had 81 yards with a touchdown in Week 2, and then Calvin Ridley, a rookie, went for 146 yards plus 3 touchdowns in Week 3.
So if you’re doubting OBJ’s effectiveness to get into the end-zone this weekend, don’t! He’ll most likely break a hundred yards with double digits receptions and a visit or two to the end-zone which will make him one of the top receivers in Week 4.
Fantasy Football Week 4 DFS Locks: Antonio Gates
Salary: Draftkings; $2,700 | Fanduel: $4,800
I would normally never do this but I’m taking that leap of faith this weekend and locking in a Tight End. Antonio Gates may be a forgotten weapon of the San Diego Chargers and of Fantasy Football. The tight end hasn’t been utilized either in the Chargers offense this season but I’m expecting that to change.
Gates made a true re-appearance last weekend with 5 targets, 3 which he caught for 45 yards and now he gets to face a San Francisco 49ers defense which he dominates and we all saw Travis Kelce dominate last weekend. Kelce put up 114 yards on 8 catches against the San Francisco defense.
While it’s been awhile since Gates has faced the San Francisco 49ers, he has dominated them. In 2006, Gates put up 78 yards off 5 catches with a touchdown and in 2014, he put up 92 yards off 7 catches for 2 touchdowns. Averaging a 75% reception rate for 10 yards per catch, it’s something I can’t and won’t ignore.
Like I said in the Keenan Allen piece, this 49ers defense is struggling and it can only get worse as Richard Sherman is out and the 49ers defense is dropping fast.
Fantasy Football Week 4 DFS Locks: Tom Brady
Salary: Draftkings: $6,700 | $8,600
It’s hard to sit here and think that Tom Brady hasn’t been a every week lock play but we’re here now and we have to deal with it. But not this week as Tom Brady and the New England Patriots go in to face the Miami Dolphins, a bounce back game.
The Dolphins are giving up 288 yards through the air, almost dead last out of the NFL. Brady will probably have his newest weapon, Josh Gordon, on the field which will open up a whole new dimension to their offense which has been struggling.
With Gronk, Gordon, and Hogan on the field, Brady won’t feel as much pressure even if Gordon doesn’t know the playbook completely. We know the Patriots tend to struggle once in awhile but after two back to back losses expect them to have a fire lit and ready to go coming Sunday.
Fantasy Football Week 4 DFS Locks: Ezekiel Elliott
Salary: Draftkings: $7,700 | $8,200
Possibly the only bright spot in the Dallas Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott gets a prime match-up with the Detroit Lions. Ranking last in rushing yards allowed, the Lions give up on average 149 yards on the ground.
Ezekiel put up 17 points in Week 1 with 15 carries for 69 yards plus a touchdown, in Week 2 he had 19 points with 17 carries for 78 yards plus a touchdown, and in Week 3 he put up 18 points with 16 carries for 127 yards.
Seeing the end-zone the first two weeks but not last week where he made up in rushing yards alone, he should see another game close to 20 points or even more. The Lions gave up a hundred yards or more to a single rusher in Week 1 and 2, just not Week 3 where they faced the struggling New England Patriots who have no identity in the backfield.
We know what Ezekiel is able to do when the Cowboys are rolling or not, so he is the final “Lock” play for Week 4.
