2. Eric Dungey, Syracuse dash Clemson’s CFP hopes…again

Everything in my soul tells me that one of the most important decisions made in the 2018 college football season occurred this week. After watching the Clemson Tigers through their first four games of the year, the one abundant truth that became evident about Dabo Swinney’s team was that true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence was the superior player to Kelly Bryant. However, the question was if Swinney would make the switch from the veteran with experience to the more talented youngster.

This week, that’s exactly what the head coach did, which ultimately caused Bryant to say that he will transfer. While that’s a tough look for him to leave the program, the Tigers are going to be better for it in the 2018 season. Every aspect of their offense this season has looked more potent with Lawrence on the field, and that’s going to give them the best chance to compete for a title once again. Having said that, I think we see some immediate woes with Lawrence as the starter.

As Clemson welcomes the Syracuse Orange to the south this week — a team that knocked off the Tigers last year — I’m concerned about the Tigers in this matchup. When you look back at how Texas A&M fought to keep it close against Clemson earlier this season, it was quarterback Kellen Mond’s mobility that really caused problems. Well, Syracuse’s Eric Dungey is one of the most prolific running quarterbacks in the country, and I think they use that to upset Clemson once again.
